Mikmaw Sacred Teachings are expressed in the crest of SapewitKatlin Wutanm:(SKW)

  1. The Four Directions can be seen and they stand as the Mikmaw Star Cross of the Early Mikmaw Catholics. Mikmaw Star Cross reminds us that Jesus is the Hero and the Star of Salvation to the Nations of the World. They keep on ever shining, giving us direction and guidance to live & lead life in harmony with the Creator.
  2. The Four Colours, White , Red , Yellow and Black are the basic Mikmaw Colours. The four colours depict the four races and the four directions, as in harmony in one circle.
  3. White is the colour reserved for elders but they share it with children under seven. It is also the colour for the North.

    Red is for the colour of the rising sun and for the natives who are the people of the Dawn. The newness of each day and it is the colour for the East.

    Yellow is for the South where warm breezes come from and it makes life to be renewed through the cycles.

    Black is for the West, It also represents our Spiritual World.

  4. The Medicine wheel represents the Faith and Wisdom of the First Nation communities. Everything in the world is in harmony as God our Niskam the Creator created. We do not have to improve them. If we try to improve on Creator's creation we get into trouble.
  5. The Eagle represents the Sacred Message that comes from the Great Spirit,. Niskam.
  6. The Turtle represents the unspoken in- depth reality, patience, loyalty, active listening, action in silence & the Mikmaw First Nation.
  7. The Peace Pipe represents the First Nation people who are always interested in Peace in Creation, among Nations, Families, and individuals.
  8. The Sweet Grass: is taken from Mother Earth and offered as a burnt offering to the Creator Spirit who is omnipresent in the Cosmos.
  9. The Mikmaw Hiero Glyphics :
    • The First One above means: God the Creator and Father - Wkwisitniskam
    • The Second on the right means: God the Son Jesus - Ewujitniskam
    • the third on the left means: God the Holy Spirit - Wejweliniskam
    • The Triangle that directs up means that God the Creator is Superior to all of us.
    • The Triangle inside directs down, means that God our Creator even though Superior to all of us, lives among us, within us, in our daily lives, environments & the cosmic world.
